David Mah Studio
is the private gallery and workspace of Memphis artist David Mah.
From the site-specific commissioned murals to representational paintings
and drawings to his more recent abstract painted collages; the work
of David Mah displays a wide variety of styles, color palettes and
imagery.
David has spent
over twenty years working on both commissioned murals and paintings,
while developing his own works consisting of oils and acrylics on
board, canvas and paper. Although the works are different in subject
matter, there is a consistent painting style and thoughtful handling
of materials. The scale, proportion and balance of each piece are
carefully and painstakingly developed.
David has worked
independently and in conjunction with various architects, interior
designers and other artists, creating site-specific murals for both
commercial and residential projects. Mural designs are based on a
wide variety of styles and inspirations; Art deco, 18th Century Italy
and France, Ancient Pompeii, Persian Minitures, Surrealism and American
murals of the WPA. Murals have been placed in museums, hotel lobbies,
restaurants, boutiques, community centers, hospitals and private
homes.
David's more personal
work, oils an acrylics on canvas, board and paper tend to be rather
traditional in both subject matter and use of materials. The subjects;
landscapes, figures and more recently abstract painted collages with
an Asian influence tend to be atmospheric, moody and at times a bit
nostalgic.
