Kathryn Abernathy, Memphis,TN

Kathryn was born and raised in a small town in Tennessee, where art was not a part of daily life. From there she attended the University of Tennessee, earned a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and had a successful career as a computer programmer. Soon after the birth of her second daughter, Kathryn began having near-constant migraine headaches. After years of doctors’ visits, numerous medications and even surgery – no one was more surprised than she at what seemed to be her “miracle cure” – Art. After witnessing the way close friends were using art to deal with their own health problems, Kathryn discovered that the more time she spent with Art, the fewer headaches she had. Through experimentation and a few local workshops, she developed her unique style that relies mainly on intuition and instinct. Today Kathryn is a full time working artist, is represented by Dezart One Gallery in Palm Springs, CA and Soho Myriad in Atlanta, and is usually migraine-free.
