My work is
an investigation of the body. I consider myself a figurative draftsman,
a maker of golems, an anatomy bender. The structure of bodies becomes
my playground I toy with composition in order to investigate the
effects and limitations of gravity on flesh and unique forms. I
like to play with scale in my works, which range from doll-size
to life-size adjusting their dimension to exploit the different
relationship of the work to the viewer. I find objects that have
specialized uses and incorporate them into my work. This adds extra
information, which I employ to tell a story or propose a compromising
situation. Leaving the figures naked helps to simplify and my idea,
because clothing carries too much information and I want to talk
about the susceptibility of the body alone.
My materials vary according to the demands of the work. Recently, I
have been using a material called Sculpy; it has fleshy, luminescent
quality and can be worked to a great amount of detail. This makes it
perfect for small works. I am fascinated with imperfections in anatomy
and study amputees and conjoined twins. I find it interesting to see
what lengths the body will go though to adapt and survive.
